    Well actually, the Sega console had to change its name in North America from 'MegaDrive' due to a trademark dispute, not because they wanted to be different from the rest of the world. A trademark issue was also another reason the Dreamcast in Europe had a blue swirl instead of red, since there was already a German company, Tivola, using a similar logo.

    The blue swirl on the European Dreamcast's look nicer than the orangey/red one on the one's outside of Europe

    but then why could other places have the name megadrive except the US?
    i didnt even know about the dreamcast one.
    i dont think ive ever seen a blue swirl.
