Grand Theft Auto V’s multiplayer mode is set to land as part of a “small” title update later today on Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network.
The downloadable patch is expected to go live for both consoles at around 7 a.m. Eastern US time, according toRockstar’s post – though the developer adds that the target is a “general timeframe” as opposed to a precise release point.
Rockstar addressed GTA Online's microtransactions as well, which allows players to acquire in-game curency by spending real-world money.
"No one can begin GTA Online and simply spend a lot of money out of the gate to get a leg up," the post reads.
"You will have to earn your stripes and play to unlock access to the aspirational clothes, guns and other items.
“Please also remember that in GTA Online, hustling to afford the finer things by earning GTA$ doing robberies, stick-ups, winning races and other profitable activities is a fun gameplay experience rather than ever being a ‘grind.'"
The multiplayer mode takes place a few months before the events of Grand Theft Auto V's single-player story, and includes a robust character creation feature along with regularly updated Jobs to take on.
