Compensation scheme for affected users expected to be rolled out by the end of the month

Rockstar is set to give each Grand Theft Auto Online player $500,000 of in-game currency as compensation for its server issues.

The deposits will be made in two payments, each of $250,000, and only applies to GTA Online players who have played the game during October.

The developer said it hoped separate payments would help keep in in-game economy balanced.

No specific date for the scheme has been set, but Rockstar hopes to start the compensation packages by the end of the month.

“For players who experienced cloud server errors, connection issues, and lost game progress and characters in these first days of GTA Online, we hope this GTA$ helps to facilitate a fresh start or makes your continued life in Los Santos and Blaine County extra sweet,” read a statement from the studio.

Servers for GTA Online had struggled under the weight of the sheer number of players during its opening week. A number of PS3 players had been unable to connect to online servers, while players on both Sony's console and the Xbox 360 were not able to access the tutorial missions.

Rockstar also disabled microtransactions as it attempted to deal with the problems.

A recently released update has helped solve some of the problems however, and Rockstar will be hoping its latest scheme will win back some player trust in its GTA V online multiplayer.
