Google hopes to tackle issues faced by those who are still struggling to get on their feet due to closed facilities, lost jobs and homes and other longer-term challenges by giving away the tablets.
The plan is to offer people easier ways of staying in contact with friends and family and searching for jobs or new homes.
The launch of the Nexus 7 had to be postponed in October 2012 due to the storm, and Google gave a helping hand during the disaster by pushing out alerts and updates to Android devices.
