thanks for the help ive downloaded devkitpro, but im pants at C programming i did a little at college but couldnt get the hang of it. im not too shabby at BASIC tho is there any way of programming ds games in that?

Not really, but as suggested above DSlua is a fairly easy scripting language to pick up and play with and could (in theory) be used to make some interesting game content. I cant point you to any tutorials though. You'll have to find them yourself.
