Rockstar's crime opus Grand Theft Auto V was the best-selling game across North America last year, according to sales monitor NPD.
The Xbox 360 and PS3 title, which is now threatening to become the top-selling standalone game ever, topped a best-selling list which was dominated by annualised series.
Call of Duty, Battlefield, Assassin's Creed, NBA, Just Dance and Madden games all featured in the North American sales chart.

Released on September 17, Rockstar's acclaimed open-world titlegenerated $800 million in worldwide sales in a single day, with GTA V revenues reaching $1 billion after just three days.
By early November, GTA V was on its way to becoming the best-selling console game of all time, with about 29 million copies sold into retail. Further sales will likely come from additional DLC and the long-rumouredGTA V for PC, should it materialise.
The best-selling console game of all time (not bundled) is currently Mario Kart Wii, at 34 million units, meaning that Rockstar North has that record within reach.
