Hi, first of all, I'm using a PSP 1004, 3.71M33-4 with 1.50 kernel addon2, and IdStorage fixed with keycleaner. The program works fine, and in GPS INFORMATION shows GPS STATE: ON.

But it's hard for the program to find satellites, and when found, shows on GPS INFORMATION screen:

    FIXED: 00
    HDOP: 0.0
    LAT and LON:0.000000
    ALT: 0.0
and in all satellites, AZIMUTH 000 and FIX: 00

    Where is my problem??

    Thanks!

Eawy, is not very easy to find what is going wrong.

    In any case:
    1) you have to be outdoor with a large peace of visible sky;
    2) the time of fixing may vary with the position of gps satellites on your had. In one moment fixing would be very fast, (not less of 1.5-2 minutes) two ours leter wuold be very long (also 6 minutes).
    3) To fix faster you must be firm.

This is for Italy, but I think also in Europe is the same.
I don't know if in another continent is the same (in Alaska?, in the North Pole?).

    Regards.

Hi, I've tried again MapThis!, and this time works, but after about 20 minutes. It started to find satellites faster than other times, but still show the same values on GPS INFORMATION.

After about 20 minutes, AZIMUTH began to change, and I skiped from GPS INFORMATION and after about a minute, it localize me.

I think that 20 minutes are many time, isn't it?

    Thanks a lot!

Nitro2985: use GMDL (http://www.in7ane.com/psp/) and search the forums if you encounter problems.

eawy: 20 minutes is a lot indeed, you may want to buy an extension cable: http://pc-mobile.net/pspue1.htm. It reduces the time to get a fix drastically .

chan178: please just read the stickies and http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Map_This!

    Ok, thanks Nieko.
    But what makes it happens?
I think I use the same PSP and the same PSP-290 than many people, all this people has the same problem?
Would it be fixed when the european version of GoEplore arrives?

And what kind of GPS reciber has the PSP-290?

    Many thanks.

I'm not quite sure if there are any differences between the device shipped with Go!Explore or the Japanese one, nor about the exact GPS chips etc. in it.

I've noticed that the time needed to get a fix depends mainly on sky visibitility (try it in an open field first) and also partly on the weather. If it's really cloudy, it seems to take longer.

Btw., with that extension cable I could even have 5-6 satellites fixed while inside with all the curtains closed, so you may want to consider it. (Though that extra length isn't always that handy to carry around.)

I've tried it again, and when more, I've got 8 satellites, but none fixed.

I haven't said that all the times I've tried I was driving in a motorway, may it affect?

    Many thanks!

Yes it does, the faster you go, the longer it takes to get a fix. Try again when you've arrived and standing still .
