Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag shipped about 10 million copies from its release through December 31, 3014, Ubisoft announced Monday.
The figures were revealed as part of Ubisoft's third-quarter 2013-2014 statement. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot provided some perspective around the numbers in a conference call with investors.
"We expect to reach around 11 million by the end of March, a remarkable performance close to the high end of our plan," Guillemot said. "Pricing was very strong, almost on par with last year's level. We are extremely proud of this achievement notably in the face of a challenging environment and an exceptionally competitive context."
Sales for Assassin's Creed 4 have not quite matched those of Assassin's Creed 3, which Ubisoft said shipped and digitally distributed more than 12 million copies in the same period of 2013. Guillemot said sales for Assassin's Creed 4 were stronger through the first six weeks of 2014 than those of Assassin's Creed 3 in the same period last year.
In our Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag review we said "pieces of its breathtaking oceanic playground remain with you long after you put the pad down." The PlayStation 4 version of the game received a 2.3 GB single-player patch last week.
