New rumours surface about the anticipated devices.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 is expected to be revealed at MWC 2014, sporting an eye scanner to rival the fingerprint scanner found on the iPhone 5S.
Meanwhile, Tim Cook has dodged questions about whether Apple phablets are on the way, meaning an iPhone 6 could potentially arrive with a five-inch screen. Either way, you can expect "great things."
The one thing the two devices will supposedly have in common, however, is a lack of buttons, according to the Korea Herald.
The bezel-free approach is supposedly because the rival firms want to concentrate their efforts on fingerprint scanners.
A source claims: "The finger-scanning technology will be available on the bottom left and right sides, and not the entire display. Scanning fingerprints on the entire screen, which was much talked about recently, will be available in the latter half of this year as there are still technological hurdles to overcome."
Additionally, the S5 is expected to come with enhanced touchscreen sensitivity to enable gloved use, while the devices are expected to be slimmer, with fingerprint sensors offering health benefits to check pulses.
The latter feature would be in keeping with Samsung's S-Health service, which encourages users to track their fitness and wellbeing. The firm recently invested $7 million in diabetes tech, which we reported as part of ME Fitness Month.
