Blackberry has revealed that its new ‘classic’ smartphone will feature full qwerty keyboard, hard buttons and trackpad.
It may only be day two of Mobile World Congress, but an awful lot of new smartphones, wearable devices and prototypes have already been unveiled at the event.
While most announcements and talks so far have been pretty predictable, Blackberry’s CEO has announced some more unusual plans.
Having previously released the Q10 smartphone, which featured a full qwerty keyboard, the firm has decided to go even further back to basics by unveiling the Q20, a handset which also includes what Blackberry describes as ‘classic’ physical buttons – Menu, Back, Send and End, as well as an integrated trackpad.
CEO John Chen insists that this is the phone that millions of ‘passionate qwerty customers around the world’ have been asking for.
The firm also unveiled a low-cost version called the Z3, which will sell for less than $200. The phone will go on sale in Indonesia in April with plans to later expand to other markets.
When asked about a version featuring 4G connectivity, Chen said it is planned for “sometime in the future before I die.”
Just in case all that didn’t give you the idea that Blackberry is a little behind the times, Chen also revealed that the firm has no plans to take part in what is one of the hottest trends in the mobile technology market right now, wearable tech.
