Microsoft is reportedly looking to expand cross-platform functionality for its Xbox Live service onto iOS and Android platforms.
The Windows Phone maker is apparently working to ease some of the console service's certifications to potentially open up things up on rival platforms. The Verge cites sources “familiar with Microsoft's plans,” as well as a pulled job listing stating that the move would be in effort "to win back game developers.”
How? By producing easy-to-use tools to help mobile developers integrate Xbox Live functionality into their products – no matter which mobile platform they develop for.
"We will create a modern framework that is open-source, lightweight, extensible and scalable across various platforms including Windows Store, Windows Phone, iOS, and Android," the job post reportedly read.
Microsoft has yet to comment on the report. The firm already offers the Xbox SmartGlass mobile app, and previously packed specific Xbox Live features into the iOS and Android versions of its mobile title Wordament.
