Default Is it possible to hide SAVEDATA folder

Bit of a random request, but is it at all possible to hide the SAVEDATA folder so that it doesn't show up on the PSP?

My son who is 5 plays on it quite a lot, but has a habit of when i'm not looking, exiting the game, going to the SAVEDATA folder and deleting the files, not on purpose just a bit of random button bashing seems to do it!!!

    Obviously this gets quite annoying!!

    Any ideas please!!??

There are some homebrew apps that hide files, or prevent them from being edited(not useful for saves =P), you might wanna try and find some and install those...another option would to be to install a shell that just makes it take a lot more button mashing to delete a file....iRshell comes to mind

My last suggestion is to just buy him his own memory stick(32 MB) if he actually even plays and saves on games, or just take the memorystick with you when you give it to him ^_^

By 'going to the savedata folder' I'm assuming you mean the 'Game Data Utility' option on the XMB as loading a homebrew file browser on the PSP itself or connecting it to a PC and deleting things manually is pretty improbable from button mashing alone.

Are you running a custom firmware, I think there is a way of removing icons from the XMB on the custom firmwares.

You could remove the 'Save Data Utility' option from the game menu. The folder/files would all still be the same on the memory stick so it wouldn't effect their functioning and your son wouldn't be able to button mash his way into that section and cause havoc.

I'm still on 1.5, I'm pretty sure you can remove icons from the custom firmwares XMB though. This may be the first ever case of there being an actual point to customising the XMB.

Hi Bah, yeah i'm on custom firmware 3.52 m33 and that's what i'm after, to just remove the Saved Data Utility folder without affecting it's functionality!

Sounds complicated though removing the icons. i'll start to read up on it, any pointers appreciated!!

    thanks for ya help!!

As you'll see from the second thread there always seems to be people having problems with customisation apps like these.
I would say update to the latest custom fw and make a new thread titled 'how do I remove an icon from the XMB under 3.80M33' or something, but there seems to be some issue with memory sticks atm.

I have never done any xmb editing nor run a CFW, if it runs homebrew without hassles then I'm happy.
Whenever there have been issues with the CFW of the time and others are applying patches or reverting to older versions, I'm still playing all my homebrew fine on good ol' 1.5

There has to be someone here that knows this sort of stuff, dam slackers not helping where they can.
I wouldn't advise messing with these kinds of apps unless you have a pandora battery/magic memory stick lying around or at least are good with restoring things via the recovery menu. There must be someone around who has done it and can help you.

    take a look at this:

you can hide your folders without deleting them, the icon will still be there but when he clicks on it you can't see or delete them. This can also hide your other folders. Instructions are in the readme, i did not make this in any way at all

That just renames folders so the XMB doesnt see them. If you left the folder hidden/renamed then games wouldnt see your savedata either. It's mostly for kids wanting to hide their porn from people. From the readme it seems to only support a few folders (not including savedata).
You'd have to toggle it all the time and if he forgot then the son could do his dirty work again.

Good idea, I think just removing the Game Data Utility icon permanently from the XMB but leaving the folders as they are (if possible on the CFW he is running) would be best though.
