Upgrading to a newer official firmware (system software) version shouldn't stop a game from working.

The game is an original, on a UMD (the disc in a plastic case) and not a copy on a memory stick isn't it?

What firmware version was it running, and what did you update it to?

By upgrade do you mean you ran a Sony update file/installed the update from a game UMD/used the update option in the PSP menu, or do you mean you tried to get a custom (unofficial) firmware installed?

If your trying to upgrade from a DA's custom firmware its a custom error code by DA,
happens when you try to run an official Sony update.

MicroNut: His problem is with running a game once updated, not running the updater itself (or so I think).

What firmware version is it running now?
To find out turn on the PSP, go all the way to the left in the menu, then down to 'system settings', then down to 'system information'.
It is listed as 'System Software'.

'DA' means Dark Alex, and by that he means a custom (unofficial) firmware. Dark Alex is the name of the author of these firmwares.

If the PSP you are having a problem with has never had anything but official sony firmware updates on it then Dark Alex and the custom firmwares have nothing to do with your problem.
If you don't know what a custom firmware is and you haven't had other people doing things to your PSP then it hasn't.

Tip: Spelling 'what' as 'wot' makes your 'fixing for my son' explanation harder to buy.

thanks for explaining. system software is 3.10 OE-A and yes my brother in law has been messing with it but that was over a year ago.

bah: it is a little confusing the way his question is worded.
    Was the upgrade successful?
Or is it that the upgrade failed?
Is this the game that failed to run?

My guess is that he has the UMD game and it wont start.
Assuming its because Pulse requires 3.71 or higher to run.
He is trying to run the update from the UMD.
Maybe PSP was purchased used or his son upgraded.

Its a very specific error code created by DA.
I really doubt official Sony firmware would generate it.
