Rev New Details on Wii Freeloader and how it works - Boxart too

    via vooks

With the announcement of the Freeloader for Wii, more questions have been raised about how exactly the disc will run, how firmware updates will be handled and more. Thanks to an email sent to Datel, more information has surfaced. According to the developers, when a foreign disc is inserted it disables the console from being able to update its firmware. What about future firmware updates? Datel believe that it won't have any effect, but we've emailed Datel ourselves to confirm. For artwork of the Freeloader box Check it out via Comments

Does this work with Gamecube mode? I have Gamecube imports that I cant play because the GC version died in a firmware Update.

Just read this info (on MC):

Divineo.co.uk has shot us over furter insider information regarding Datel's FreeLoader product for the Wii. So far, 41 Wii import games have been tested on a PAL console, 37 worked without problems while 4 required a firmware update to work. This is disbaled but to get these games to work on a lower firmware, you need to do a DOUBLE swap, ie re-insert FreeLoader then insert the game again to work. It is also beleived that there will be three versions of the software, one for each JAP/USA/EU, thus the images are likely not to be final and will have just one respective flag on the front.

    ------------------

Now if only Divineo. would actualy release the details of the games they got to work and vice versa??

I'm on the latest fimware update so I asume everything will be ok anyway?

that box art is final as codejunkies has already shipped some they were just out of stock when i orderd they said they should have them in a few days tho. as for the box art it shows all 3 flags as that is what it allows you to do play games from all of them reigons.

Default i have tested this Pal wii free loader on pal machine.....

and it comes up some graphical lines stretching across the screen two times as soon as the disc gets put in and reads, i then clicked on the game icon and it says "unable to read disc" i am on firmware 3.0E. i have read the instructions and it says it shud autoplay, seems like a hoax to me tbh, the wii wont even read it.

Got mine today. Tested Smash Bros Melee, Star Fox Assault and Paper Mario: TTYD, all American games. Only Melee worked for some reason.

I think it might be because Paper Mario and Star Fox are Canadian, while Melee is from the US.
