Modifying DVD Disk Drive

I heard about this on other sites, that you can modify the disk drive to run data disks as native 360 disks. (Essentially running game back ups on your 360), I'm curious if this is true and if so, does this mean back ups are possible without a mod chip? Thanks.

yes its possible without a modchip look for tutorials to get started and if you succeed burning the games sometimes can be complicated but not too much

both are embarrassingly easy to do
