Take this as a rumour until i get more confirmation but heres an email i just recieved:

Hi all

i picked up a UMD of The One today in Brisbane - Region 4 - and it works on the Jap PSP Region 2 - i was shocked and happy at the same time.

The Jap PSP also plays Jap and US UMD movies as well, so this is a bargain. If a US/Jap UMD is not released in Australia, i can play it on the Region 2 PSP.

Great news.

Rodney

Can anyone test and confirm this, and please post your firmware number just so we can keep an eye if it changes.

Report back please :)

I thought US UMDs were confirmed as not working on Japanese PSPs a few months back?

OK here is the story

My mate manages a EB Games here

Now about 2 months ago the got a demo PSP instore 1001k with a copy of Charlies Angles Zone 1. Now I chucked it in to my PSP (1000k) and it started. Now I dont know how? Maybe it was a Jap version repackaged? Maybe it was unregioned for the shops...I dont know but it works.

I didnt buy the UMD I mentions, I just gave em all a go as I was checkin for myself if they worked. I didnt beleive it after the 1st so I tried again and again and after the 4th I was happy with the results :D

So thats how it is :D :D

The US movies working on a JAP PSP is amystery to me. shouldn't work except by a blatant error on Sony's part. You shouldn't have any second thoughts about the region 4 disks though because I believe they are the same with real DVD's, aren't they? Maybe I got the region numbers mixed up in my head by I know that the big movie companies were too damn lazy to make another regeon key and never felt they needed to because regeon 2 people have NTSC equipment while region 4 is PAL.

I am in Japan, however, so maybe I can get the proof within a few days if no one beats me to it.

Hi Ya,

The regions they are using are the exact same as DVD.............

You'll find a lot of british and australian DVD's are dual coded to work in both europe and australia this way they don't have to make different versios of the dvd for each region, this is because Australia and Europe having the same kinda laws and saves money for the developers and distributors.

Some DVD's will show this on the back, some will not.

Then You have america and south america and you'll find many american DVD's 1/4.

Sony Originally Created this regional system in the creation of DVD's 10 years ago or so.

It seems their using it for there UMD format as well.
