Been longing for a second analog stick on your PSP? Modder LordNico's got you covered with the Razor X (seriously, where do these guys come up with their names?), a user-installable analog stick that appears to mimic the functions of your standard four button pad. (In other words, getting the games to take advantage of the controls is another matter entirely.) Apparently details of the mod will be released soon enough for those brave enough to consider relocating their power switch to the start button -- yikes.

wow... just wow.... i wish for another analog stick whenever i play metal gear online. or at least the anolog stick was on the opposite side of the dpad.

but now that i see it it just sorta scares me:eek:

i dont think id ever do this to my psp. besides, if the start button = power on/off itll go on and off every 2 seconds by accident X_x

If you watch the video, the whole bottom right of the PSP looks bent to ****.

Yeah sure, this looks nice and I bet it was a lot of work. But in fact mods like that remain useless as long as the software is not optimized for it.

Don't get me wrong: I really admire the technical skills needed for mods like that, but this will never be useful for the mainstream.

Its also just bound to the face buttons which are digital (on/off) not analog(ue) so it seems like an overly complex alternative to sticking something on top of the buttons to make them easier to use as a d-pad or modding a faceplate to do the same.

Analog(ue) sticks these days are really multi stage digital but its a lot better than a d-pad for many things.

Software is already 'optimised' for it in any commercial/homebrew game where you can set the face buttons to act like a d-pad (eg PSPQuake, i think the MOH games etc) because its not adding a new input device, just a new way of activating the face buttons.
