After closing its doors to new content (http://www.joystiq.com/2013/08/30/playstation-home-closing-doors-to-new-content-in-japan/) last August, Sony has decided to turn off the lights on PlayStation Home in Japan entirely.

The PlayStation Home social network will end in March 2015 in Japan (http://playstationhome.jp/info/20140822.html), Sony announced on the Japanese Home website. A translation of the message indicates that the Home service maintained by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and Sony Computer Entertainment America is exempt from the shut down.

Sony's PlayStation Home service, a 3D-environment social network for the PlayStation 3, first launched its beta test in Japan in August 2008. The service was powered by advertisements (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/20/home-is-where-the-ads-are/), tricking other users (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/12/how-to-perform-quincying-in-playstation-home/), and dancing with hamsters (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/19/home-to-host-hamster-vs-human-dance-off-tomorrow/).
