Hi all,

Is there an easy way to find out what Mod Chip I have installed, or do I need to open the Wii?

Cheers,

Paul.

hmm, you can check if it will boot the wiikey config disc, if it does then you have a wiikey, if it doesn't work then you have another one..

do you know if you have D2C drive or one of the older ones?
if you have a D2C drive then you probably have a good chip;)

the wii has thousads of different screws, so i don't recommend to open it up just to check the modchip..
kinda hard to put it back together when you have opened it...

Can you clarify how far it should boot?

I've burnt a couple of updates 1.9g & 1.9s (g onto CD and s onto DVD).
Finalised both and neither were recongnised by the wii..

Are there any other updates that I can try like this without risking the wii?

Cheers,

Paul.

so i guess that you don't have a wiikey..
the wii can't read cd-r cd's so don't waste them..

check your serial number under your console, to see which drive you have, if it's OVER LEH1353, then you most likley have a d2c drive, and probably a good chip, if you don't have a clone or something..

So if I don't have a WiiChip, the disc is unrecognised, not boots part way?

Cheers for the reply.

no, it won't boot, it will say it can't read the disc, why don't you know if you have a chip or not?

Nope, I know I have a chip, but Mario Kart will not load with a unauthorised device detected error.

Not sure what the chip is, so would like to find out to see if it can be upgraded so it will play MK.

I've been told it's a D2E? But I think the person has got that wrong...

Just to say the Wii's serial number starts 1147, so could I have an older chipset... Will that cause issue... IE WiiClip not working with it?
