Microsoft might not have had much success with Xbox 360 faceplates (http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/16/microsoft-admits-failure-with-xbox-360-faceplates-says-nobody/), but that isn't stopping Sony from giving console customization a shot. The company's newly unveiled Project SkyLight beta (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/12/06/introducing-project-skylight-limited-edition-faceplates-to-personalize-your-ps4/) lets you slap a faceplate on your PlayStation 4 for $25, livening up the otherwise plain surface of your gaming system. While only two limited edition plates (LittleBigPlanet 3 (http://store.sony.com/littlebigplanet-3-ps4-faceplate-zid27-PS43000705/cat-27-catid-All-PS4-Accessories) and The Order: 1886 (http://store.sony.com/the-order-1886-ps4-faceplate-zid27-PS43000795/cat-27-catid-All-PS4-Accessories)) are available in this test phase, there are promises of more -- don't be shocked if you see SkyLight add-ons tied tomajor PS4 releases (http://www.engadget.com/2014/12/06/uncharted-4-gameplay/) from this moment onward.
