The PlayStation 4 is in high demand for the second holiday season in a row, according to Sony (http://www.sony.co.uk/) Computer Entertainment Europe CEO Andrew House. Without offering specific sales numbers, House told Reuters (http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/12/19/us-sony-playstation-idUSKBN0JX0NY20141219?feedType=RSS&feedName=technologyNews) that the console is potentially "going to be quite inventory challenged." Shipments for the PS4 reached 13.5 million (http://www.joystiq.com/2014/10/31/ps4-sales-up-to-13-5-million-consoles/) consoles as of the end of October.

"I'm not going to say you won't be able to find a PlayStation 4," House added. "I think it's going to be kind of hand to mouth in terms of that market." The CEO noted that sales for the system in December were in line with Sony's projections, though it was a "tougher" month thanks to the $50 holiday price cut (http://www.joystiq.com/2014/10/27/xbox-one-trims-50-for-the-holidays/) by its main competitor in the United States, Microsoft's Xbox One. While its gaming division is thriving, Sony (http://www.sony.co.uk/) upped its loss forecast to $2 billion in September (http://www.joystiq.com/2014/09/17/sony-ups-loss-forecast-to-2-billion-following-smartphone-strugg/) due to struggling smartphone sales and opted to not renew its FIFA sponsorship (http://www.joystiq.com/2014/12/01/sony-will-not-renew-its-fifa-sponsorship/) at the beginning of this month to spend more money on structural reforms.
