Ok, this morning I went to play on my DC and it has stopped reading discs.

It just whirrs in a lunging way (from slow then faster, then slow etc).

I have opened it up and made sure there was no dust. I even turned the potometer a tiny, tiny amount to the right but it had no effect so Ive left that for now.

Here is a rubbish phone vid clip, but the audio gives a good indication of what the DC is doing:
Streaming mpg (http://freefilebin.com/userfiles/jarvster2000/Broken%20Dreamcast.mpg) (1.9MB)
Downloadable mpeg (http://zupload.com/download.php?file=getfile&filepath=7951) (1.9MB)

If I try without a CD (and DC case) the laser bobs up and down as it should.

Anyone have any ideas or tips? Is the laser defunct? Or motor?

Well since no one has really responded to you I will. I'm not exactly sure what the problem is, but I would try adjusting the calibration on the GD-ROM drive. Try this link out:

He said he already did that, but since he only turned it a bit, i suggest turning it much more, sometimes it takes up to a full turn to work again.

btw, that's a good guide fackue, ive been looking for a guide to show people when their DC laser needs a recab, all the others seem to over complicate.
