Microsoft has said that it will not lock the Windows 10 Xbox Live app behind a Gold subscription paywall.
The confirmation came from Major Nelson on Twitter, who told a fan that: “Xbox Live Gold will not be required for online multiplayer gaming using our service on Windows 10 PCs and Phones.”
Xbox Live on Windows 10 will offer a wide assortment of features previously only available to console owners such as messaging and, in the case of some titles such as Fable Legends (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/fable-legends-to-arrive-on-pc-alongside-xbox-one/0144185), cross-platform multiplayer.
Some titles will also support cross-buy (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/microsoft-confirms-xbox-one-and-windows-10-cross-buy/0146202), meaning that if you buy them on one platform you will also receive them on the other.
There will also be some additional features for streamers and video uploaders (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/windows-10-can-edit-xbox-one-video-footage/0146247), with Windows 10 able to access gameplay recordings from Xbox One.
