Apple's oft-rumored, Beats-based streaming music service (http://www.engadget.com/2015/05/08/apple-free-music-streaming/) may have more to offer artists than a big wad of cash (http://www.engadget.com/2015/03/31/apple-reportedly-luring-tidal-artists/). Tipsters for 9to5Mac claim (http://9to5mac.com/2015/05/13/apple-music-beats-based-streaming-service-to-have-ping-like-social-network-for-artists/) that the service (reportedly called just "Apple Music") will give artists the freedom to share things beyond their latest songs -- they could post music videos, concert details, photos and track samples, even if the content is from other performers. Think of it as an amped-upSoundCloud (http://www.engadget.com/2015/02/05/aphex-twin-soundcloud/) page, or a take on Apple's defunct Ping network that people might actually use (http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/01/apple-ping-dead-rip-2010-2012/). Artist activity is reportedly big enough that it'll be a "core feature," and you'd see it in the Android (http://www.engadget.com/2015/02/04/apple-beats-service-rumors/), iOS and desktop versions. Apple isn't confirming any of these details, as you might imagine, but previous rumors of a WWDC debut (http://www.engadget.com/2015/03/05/apple-itunes-beats-music-streaming-at-wwdc/) suggest that you'll hear more about this musician-friendly platform in early June (http://www.engadget.com/2015/04/14/apple-wwdc-2015/).
