Chart-Track has released finalised UK sales data for Grand Theft Auto IV's launch date and first full week, showing sales of 926,000 units for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions combined.

Day one sales were 631,000 units. The first week sales were spread across five days. According to Chart-Track, GTA IV software revenue is bigger than the entire software market revenue of any week so far this year after the first week of 2008.

Chart-Track also reported that the first week of GTA IV software units has already surpassed all but the top three All Formats titles of 2007 - FIFA 08, Brain Training and Call of Duty 4.

514,000 copies were sold for Microsoft's Xbox 360 and 413,000 copies were sold for Sony's PlayStation 3 - a split of 55 per cent to 45 per cent.

Chart-Track is reporting that GTA IV's launch had almost the same effect on console hardware sales for both systems - with PS3 hardware sales up 127 per cent from the previous week and Xbox 360 hardware sales up 125 per cent.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which launched on 29 October 2004, sold 501,000 copies on its first day and 677,000 units during its first week - which consisted only of two days. At the time it was released, the PS2 had an installed base of approximately 6.6 million.

San Andreas still holds the day one and week one record for the individual format, but GTA IV is the new record holder for all formats.

if GTA only sold this then how does MGS expect to sell 1 million copies in the first day?! and to a smaller crowd!

The 360 version kicked PS3 version in the sales, as I expected.

With the two exclusive expansions, obviously the number will be a lot bigger.

What a surprise, 360 has sold more. And yet the PS3 has a bigger attach rate.

Considering that the PS3 version had no advertising, the PS3 is significantly more expensive, 360 had very aggressive marketing for GTA, 360 has upcoming exclusive content and the 360 supposedly has much greater game attach rate, looks to me like 360 sales are very disappointing.

But hey! Im too busy enjoying the game to care about sales figures so much.

We will see in the next months if the 360 version sales are "very disappointing".

No.

At this time, they "are very disappointing"

In the coming months they might improve.

I agree. Most 'hardcore' gamers buy high profile games a few months late, personally i don't comply to such fashions.

Thats funny... The 360 has a much greater install base, and yet only managed to sell 100,000 more than the PS3. I suppose the 360 (which has MILLIONS more consoles in user's hands than the PS3) should have sold MILLIONS more games...

Oh thats right, I guess most everyone with a 360 is waiting for MS to fix their RRODed consoles...

When will you learn JKK? If the 360 was SO GOOD, MS wouldn't have lost billions over extending the warranty because they made the console as cheaply as they could in China.

Wake up, it's just only the first week of sales.

Yeah, same goes for the PS3. GTAIV sold out on the PS3 in most stores, just like the 360 version...

Not to mention, when companies see a larger install base, they make more games available for that console. Rockband for instance, most stores had hundreds of units for the 360, some were lucky to get 20 for the PS3...

Yeah, I agree! It's just too sad that the development cost on PS3 is higher than on 360 :( :(
