He was for years THE iconic face of the WWF/WWE, but now Hulk Hogan is being wiped from wrestling history.
Terry ‘Hulk Hogan’ Bollea has in recent days been caught up in a huge media furore after it emerged that a tape of him that is currently embroiled in a lawsuit between the wrestler and Gawker Media also includes snippets where he uses racist language.
WWE has as a result cancelled his contract and begun on the process of eradicating all mention of him from the organisation’s history. His name or likeness can no longer be found on the WWE website and he has been pulled from the Hall of Fame.
"We are highly respectful of the way that our partners choose to run their business and manage our partnerships accordingly," a 2K Sports rep told Polygon (http://www.polygon.com/2015/7/24/9031913/hulk-hogan-racist-tirade-wwe-fired). "We can confirm that Hulk Hogan will not appear in WWE 2K16."
The rep could not confirm whether the company will make moves to remove Hogan from older titles.
Hogan featured prominently in WWE 2K15, which was also released in a ‘Hulkmania Edition’.
The tapes in question first came to light in 2012 when Gawker published them. They reveal Bollea having sex with Heather Clem, the wife of friend Bubba the Love Sponge – who is present. This additional racist material is contained within these tapes and has been exposed as part of the ongoing libel case between the wrestler and Gawker.
