While we're big fans of Samsung's Gear VR (http://www.engadget.com/2015/11/25/samsung-gear-vr-review-2015/), Google's Cardboard (http://www.engadget.com/2015/06/04/google-cardboard-vr-education/) is still the cheapest and easiest way to get your feet wet with virtual reality. With just a piece of cardboard, velcro, a couple of lenses and your handy smartphone, you can set foot on Mars (http://www.engadget.com/2015/09/28/google-expeditions-cardboard-for-free/) or be immersed in a Paul McCartney concert (http://www.engadget.com/2015/03/01/dolby-atmos-comes-to-vr/). But what about capturing VR? You'd have to cough up huge amounts of cash for a crazy GoPro setup (http://www.engadget.com/2015/05/28/gopro-360-degree-camera-array-for-vr/) or something much more expensive (http://www.engadget.com/2015/11/05/lytro-immerge/). Or maybe not, thanks to Google. The Mountain View giant has democratized virtual reality once again with a new Cardboard Camera app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.vr.cyclops)that promises to turn your ordinary smartphone into a VR camera.
