Nintendo’s next home console is set for an explosive start.
That’s according to component suppliers for the NX cited byDigiTimes (http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20151130PD203.html), who have pegged first-year shipments for the new hardware at between 10 and 12 million.
That is, of course, if the mysterious new machine launches when it is rumoured to – with DigiTimes (http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20150702PD204.html) formerly slating it for a July 2016 release based on the production schedules of anonymous ‘supply chain partners’.
Controversial manufacturer Foxconn – which also builds the PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, iPhone and iPad – is unsurprisingly also expected to produce the NX.
As a point of reference, as of October 2015 (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/wii-u-sales-slightly-up-as-revenue-increases/0158117), lifetime Wii U sales stood at just shy of 11 million.
Meanwhile, PS4 has just passed 30 million global sales (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/ps4-sales-pass-30m-worldwide/0159594).
The last figure on Xbox One comes from November 2014 (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/xbox-one-nears-10m-units-shipped-thanks-to-price-drop/0141302), when Microsoft's console had 10 million units shipped. The platform holder has since announced it will not reveal Xbox One sales going forward.
