Need help porting echochrome clone

This clone isn't too mature right now, but it works:

I really, really want to port this to the NDS, but it won't work (it would power up and leave the top screen black and the bottom screen white). Modified source code:

Oh and that source code is outdated (0.0.7). I haven't made the changes to the main tree yet (which is at 0.1.0):
