Fortnite was the highest trending game on Google in the United States this year, followed by Red Dead Redemption 2.
Given the commercial success of both Epic's battle royale game (https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2018-11-08-fortnite-reaches-8-3-million-concurrent-players) and Rockstar's open world sequel (https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2018-10-30-red-dead-redemption-2-makes-usd725-million-in-three-days), their positions at the top of Google trends (https://trends.google.com/trends/yis/2018/US/) is hardly surprising.
However, there are surprises elsewhere in the top ten list. The third highest trending game was Fallout 76, for example, which was greeted with poor reviews (https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2018-11-23-fallout-76-critical-consensus) from both the press and its users. The game evidently stirred debate both before and after its release in November.
