As mentioned a few days ago, interest in Android for the Switch has been rebooted with ByLaws (Billy Laws) getting GPU acceleration working (http://wololo.net/2019/06/10/nintendo-switch-news-bylaws-gets-gpu-acceleration-on-android-for-switch-and-promises-to-release-his-work-when-its-ready/)! While this was pretty exciting news, ByLaws noted that the whole port had been redone and some things that were previously working weren’t working anymore but now, these have been fixed.
In a Reddit thread posted around a day ago (https://www.reddit.com/r/SwitchHacks/comments/bzg32d/so_i_heard_you_guys_wanted_portal_on_the_switch/), ByLaws published a video of his Nintendo Switch running Portal for Android (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nvidia.valvesoftware.portal&hl=en) which is an NVIDIA Shield exclusive meaning it only runs on specific Tegra hardware (the Switch’s SoC is based on the Tegra X1). Other than getting Portal up and running, ByLaws also had more good news to share which includes:
WiFi is now working (https://www.reddit.com/r/SwitchHacks/comments/bzg32d/so_i_heard_you_guys_wanted_portal_on_the_switch/eqs5lqp/) which means that this port can go online
Touchscreen input is now supported (https://www.reddit.com/r/SwitchHacks/comments/bzg32d/so_i_heard_you_guys_wanted_portal_on_the_switch/eqsen7e/) so that the Switch can be comfortably used in tablet mode
More applications, including Discord (https://www.reddit.com/r/SwitchHacks/comments/bzg32d/so_i_heard_you_guys_wanted_portal_on_the_switch/eqsf1qk/), are now functioning and confirmation that the SHIELD port of Borderlands is also working (https://www.reddit.com/r/SwitchHacks/comments/bzg32d/so_i_heard_you_guys_wanted_portal_on_the_switch/)
It’s important to note that ByLaws has given no ETA (https://www.reddit.com/r/SwitchHacks/comments/bzg32d/so_i_heard_you_guys_wanted_portal_on_the_switch/eqtr503/) so it’s of utmost importance that you don’t pester him and let him do his job.
