Nintendo has been triumphant in defending itself against claims that the Switch's Joy-Con controllers infringe on patents owned by Gamevice.
The mobile accessories firm filed a lawsuit against Nintendo back in 2018 (https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2018-05-02-nintendo-switch-targeted-by-gamevice-patent-lawsuit-again), claiming that the console/handheld hybrid copies ideas from its own detachable controllers for smartphones and tablets.
However, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board has invalidated all 19 of Gamevice's claims against Nintendo, according to Law360 (https://www.law360.com/ip/articles/1252285/nintendo-gets-ptab-to-nix-mobile-gaming-patent).
"Gamevice does not contest Nintendo's showing that these dependent claims are unpatentable, nor does Gamevice offer any other argument or evidence in support of patentability," the board said.
