Just wondering what extensions do you use in firefox?

me:
Adblock (blocks ads)
IE Tab (can open a new tab which renders in IE,)
Search status (shows google pagerank and Alexa rank on the status bar of the site your currently looking at)
web developer (web developing tools, but honestly have not used it much)
British English Dictionary (Darksaviour has a lovely colour)

AVG Safe Search (Hmm, maybe that's why it's a bit slow)
Fasterfox
Netcraft Anti-Phishing Toolbar (In my opinion very helpful)
Talkback (Maybe I should just delete that...)

Mine are:

DownloadHelper (makes downloading videos from youtube etc a lot easier)
FlashGot (so that I can download my files with GetRight)
British English Dictionary
United States English Dictionary
Deutsches Wörterbuch (German dictionary)
PDF Creator Toolbar (don't know where this comes from??)

Hmm, it seems that Firefox 3.0 (which was released yesterday:thumbup:) doesn't support the ICQ Toolbar and the Winamp Toolbar. Well, honestly, I've never used them...

I only use Adblock.

The only thing I really need.

I am considering moving to opera, Firefox just isn't stable enough.

Some of the most popular Firefox extensions have memory leaks, will slow your browser down and/or create conflicts with other programs. Some of these extensions include FasterFox, IE Tab, Session Saver, and Tabbrowser Extensions. An article at MozillaZine lists known extensions that will cause side effects in Firefox along with recommended workarounds. It is up to you to decide if the extra feature an extension provides is worth the issues caused by a particular extension.

although, I'm downloading firefox 3 now and I'm definitely gonna get some new addons.

Okay, I'm officially an Opera 9.50 user. However, that does not mean I don't use Firefox and either one sure beats Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7 big time. Now to the point, the Firefox extension plugins that are currently on my machine are as follows:

British English Dictionary
Chatzilla (IRC client, not used much)
DCOM Inspector
Download Manager Tweak (changes the look of the download dialog box somewhat)
Foxclocks (shows times multiple zones from around the world)
Minimize to Tray (allows Firefox to be docked in the Windows system tray area)
Minimize to Tray Enhancer (tweaks for above plugin)
NoScript (prevents javascript and other functions like flash from running, can be customised on a per website basis)
PDF Download
Quick Restart (adds a button to the tool bar and a file menu option to restart the broswer)
Router Status (for faster control panel access and quick router status)
Talkback (sends crash info to Mozilla)

You shot the wrong person bud.

Anyway, I haven't really paid attention to the extensions for FireFox, so I should start trying some now.

Just FYI: Opera has extensions too. Both in the form of Widgets and plugins. The reason they're not that popular is that it has sooooo much already built in. Looking at what ya'll list most of it is either full out built-in, or is acheivable without searching for an extension with additional downloadable content.

For example: Spellchecking. Opera uses the GNU aspell engine for spellchecking. If you want to use it, you right click for spellchecking and the first time you do you will be directed to the aspell site, where there are dozens of languages to choose from.

If you never have, try Opera. It's well worth it.

Spellchecking was a bad example as its built in to Firefox as well default American, but you can get additional languages via similar method.

But I have heard great things about opera and I have downloaded and tried it, at least twice, but never kept using it. I think really there is not much difference between opera and firefox, both are great, and both are much better than IE

The biggest difference I've consistantly heard about and felt firsthand is Opera's caching system, which is amazing. People often rag because it can be a memory hog, but it bases it's memory usage entirely on how much memory is free at the time, so if any other program needs the memory it'll cede it quickly. The whole new favorite test people seem to be doing is running Opera v Firefox 3 on a machine with 2gb of ram and OMG Opera uses 20 more mb. The real test would be to run it on a machine with 256 or 512mb, or open another set of programs after the initial test to see change in memory usage.

Ah, I saw spellchecker listed in people's extensions and assumed the builting was only american english and not as good as some extension. Hows about builtin voice narration(Opera will read to you)? or mouse gestures?
