Hi all,

Here is a new release of AFKIM (Away From the Keyboard Instant Messenger), the instant messaging application for PSP written by Danzel !
(see http://localhost.geek.nz/)

This version fix graphical glitches under xfw 4.01-m33 on PSP SLIM
(If you have cfw < 4.01 or a PSP FAT, then no need to install this new version).

You can find it here : http://zx81.zx81.free.fr/

Enjoy,

Zx.

I'm getting pretty good at this too, kinda like the kid who uses his cell phone all day and can type as fast as he can talk on his cell phone :P
One of the best apps ever made, so many people over looked this.

You need a psp fat to use it, and the one i've got is :
Targus PA870 Universal Wireless Foldable Keyboard

(you may find it on ebay for less than 20$)

I installed this and it frecked up after the selecting the connection, the writing is all scrambled and all over the first image that loads. I'm on a SLIM with 3.80 M33-3 (or whatever the latest was for 3.80). So I rolled back to the previous version, I thought it said to update unless you were on 4.01 M33, guess I read it wrong.
EDIT: I was thinking, some people can accidently erase or when upgrading lose their cfg login file. You should make a box for people who already have an account too when it doesn't find a cfg login file. Its not a big deal to make your own login file but it can take some hastle out of it.

Just thought I would chime in. I am a real psp homebrew noob. Have psp slim (029) TA-085 running CFW 4.01 M33-2 . Placed afkim folder in psp/games. Runs ok connects to bittlbee server asks me to make an account which I do but when it trys to connect it shows a timeout resolving message a few times then a failed to resolve message and then the psp hard locks until it crashes and my psp shuts off. If it is a problem with bittlbee it still would be nice if it wouldnt hard lock and crash the psp :) . All in good fun though , thanks for software. Hope this little bit of feedback helps. Would be kind of nice to get this running ... so many people on msn messenger and with no homebrew for ps3 any where near in site would be nice to have this sitting on the couch beside me.

thanks for your feedback, but the issue this version should fix is a graphical glitch not a bad connection / freeze ... About the resolving problem, you can still create a bitlbee account using any IRC client, and then write account coordinates in a bitlbee.cfg file (see example provided with afkim archive).

Sorry about that I had read the example I guess I had mistakenly thought that the connection issue wasn't actually bad enough to lock and crash the program. I guess I will have to try to make an account to test. Will post back with my results. Thanks for replying a google reveals at least another popular site where you have been maintaining another support thread
so thanks again

I had this problem with last version, there is a fix, right after your hardboot turn it back on and go right back to afkim first thing and try again. I don't know if this will work for creating an account but it did fix my problem when logging in, I have no clue why.

@ZX81 The version you posted did fix my graphics problem, plus i don't have to do the hardboot login thing I posted above anymore, thanx a bunch.

So I loaded up xchat and manually made an account on a bitlbee server and even accessed my messenger accounts from there. Then i configured the bitlbee config file in afkim. But still no go. timeout resolving ... failed to resolve..crash. I changed the server from its DN to its ip address as I found on google but this just changed the error to connection error then lock...crash. Looks excellent but i cannot make it work. Going right back to afkim after the crash doenst help. Anyone no where I can get some help on this?

You did try what I said right? Cause that was the same problem I was having, just after it crashes, boot it back up, go straight to afkim and try again. It always logs in perfectly after I do that. Ya and scratch what I said before, I still have to do this with the new version, must have just gotten lucky once. I don't mind though.

I know many of you encountered connection issue, but since i can't reproduce it, i can't fix it :o

I am sorry I didn't post back sooner but the recent upgrade to Firefox 3 in Ubuntu didn't go as smoothly as I planned in regards to the thin client and server system I have set up. Anyways thanks for all your hard work. It sorta seems like a networking issue(in regards to my afkim problem) although googling around doesn't seem to point me in any specific one direction. Thanks for your time. I did learn a little about bitlebee in the process so I guess there is a bright side to everything. I wish I could make this work ... msn messenger is so ubiquitous in its use and when people who dont own a ps3 are trying to contact me well you get the picture. I used to think with the ability to run linux on the ps3 there was no need for home brew for it, but after the recent xmb update (was a let down for me devs have to include or patch for in game music) I am beginning to the think differently but I digress

Can you try this new version i've bundled for you :
http://zx81.zx81.free.fr/public/psp/afkim/afkim-v3.3.5-3-fw4x.zip

In the afkim.cfg file you can specify a timeout value that would be used in several part of the afkim code (mainly in polling loop). The default value is 1000, but you can try several values between 100 and 10000 and see what is the one that work for you.

Please report me if it works or not, and with which timeout value, i will then package a new official version and explain how to proceed etc ... Thanks.

Hey zx-81,
I'm having the same issue as what dasbooter was describing. I have tried your updated version in msg#22, and have tried a value of 5000 to give it plenty of time to resolve / connect. But I still get the same thing happening, it's unable to resolve the address, or when I use the IP for im.bitlbee.org I get
"Resolving
Resolved, Connecting
Connect error"
then it hangs the PSP and shuts off.

Also, when I select what wifi to connect to, it goes through states 2 of 4, then 6, then 3 then 4. I don't know if this matters or not, but I'm just reporting what I get.

My PSP is a PSP1002(phat) with CFW 4.01M33-2. I have installed AFKIM into the Game and Game4XX directories to try different things out (I only have one copy on the MS when I run the program).

Is there a way to release a debug version that will dump what it's doing to a text file or something so that I can attach it here, or email it to you for you to look over?

Thanks for your effort,
Shaitan24.

Welcome to the forums

To run AFKIM on your PSP, make sure you have a homebrew enabled PSP. Then, copy the AFKIM folders in their places in PSP/GAME. Then it should simply appear in the PSP XMB menu.

Hope that helped.
