View Full Version : Go Explore and Holux = possible

First things first.

The long awaited Go!Explore is finally there.

I was very inquisitive when the first leak came out.

It's a bit a sloppy service from $ony, selling it for this much money.

Let's get to the facts:

-Go!Explore is just an edited IGO 2008 for PDA's
-It works with FBL maps
-Skins etc can be edited easily
-There are some protections build in
-Having your own voice in is possible
-Holux is possible, but not YET.

====================

In the past i told you Nieko and i have worked many many hours on the Go Explore Beta.

Now the final is out, and we've managed to tear it apart and now how it works.

In fact, Holux devices CAN work, as long as some files are edited.

I can't help you out supplying the files, because of the forum rules AND guidelines.

But i can supply a little manual.

AND

because i havn't got an holux...

So somebody have to edit it, themselfs !

================

There are many variations in the final and beta (v0.0.8). The Beta is much more suitable for editing, but also less polished. So it's upto you.

The file structure.

1 BUY Go!Explore, they deserve the money.
2 Rip the iso to your pc with whatever program.
3 Open it up with UMDGEN 4.0
4 Everything in SYSDIR can be dummied, you won't need the update to firmware 3.80
5 in USRDIR it is as follows:

* SYS.txt : nothing spectacular
* Klavika.ttf - a font specific for the program, maybe it can be altered.
* READHELPER.IDX Helps reading the files.
* READHELPER.DAT Filestructure list for the IDX reader.

They must be removed. Otherwise you can't load your own files. Editing of the .DAT doesn't work. The LBA (Logical Boot Adress) is changed then.
IF Readhelper files are removed, loading will go slower, but it's not terrible.

*Theme_X.zip open these and you will find some images to edit. Very easy with photoshop.

* LICENSE a directory with the famous LIC0.LIC. This file isn't hacked yet. It contains the serial numbers for the different maps, and the location of where they are stored in the ISO. This is a VERY crucial file. If the lic0.lic from the beta is supplied, it will only load the london and ireland maps.

*DEVICE.NNG a file which isn't different in beta and or final version of Go!explore. Says that it's a PSP :)

======

USRDIR > CONTENT

* BUILDING, a directory fully loaded with .3DC files. Can be swapped with IGO files you'll find around the internet i think.
Also contains .3DL files. Same as .3DC

*DEM directory. Loads the whole World. You can use the Britishisles.DEM from the Beta version of Go!Explore

*LANG, a directory for languages. Languages can be removed if you don't need them. If you try to select them in game, sometimes the game chrashes. OR you won't see them if they aren't present. Both variations occur.

* Map, the famous maps directory. Maps can be switched with IGO maps you will find around the net. Don't know if it works. BUT you can swap .fbl maps from the beta of go explore into the final and backwards. That was the whole purpose of this hack, make the maps work in other Go!Explore versions :thumbup:

*POI, some points of interest. Can be edited with PC program POIEdit.

*Speedcam, contains the SPEEDCAMUPDATES.SPUD.
This file is old. You can swap it with a newer one found on google.

*Texture, please leave this directory alone. It contains the textures for the program. Don't know if they can be swapped or edited. Try it yourself.

*VOICE, famous voice directory. Contains various zip files which can be edited. See google for tutorials onto that.

======

DATA.ZIP, the file which contains a lot of sloppy work from $ony. You see $ony left the HP iPaQ ini files still hidden there.

Contains various files

*FF_Keymap.txt, this is a file that maps the psp buttons to the IGO program. Don't mess around with it

*CTYPE.DAT, not important
*AUDIOPSP, contains some bleeps and other audio things. Can be edited, search google for tutorials.

*CONFIG directory

contains _xxx.XPD files. They serve as indicator for road colors etc etc. Edit at own risk !

*Contains many other files self explanatory. Try opening them with Notepad and edit if you like :)

*GFX, a directory full of sprites and other images used in Go!Explore. Edit them if you like.

*i18n, unknown.

*UI_PSP, the whole UI. Contains also some scripts. Don't know how they work. See UI_PSP > Common > UI and then 7Setting.ui.

Contains GPSAUTODETECT. But don't know how it works.

=================

So now the burning question, how to make Holux work ?

From the experience that i have, make sure you have a mapthis working with holux at first.

Edit then the following files:

SYS_PC.txt

and make it:

[GPS]
protocol = "NMEA"
port = 1
baud = 4800

Or edit the DEVICE = Holux, and make the Holux.ini yourself in the DATA.ZIP > Config > Devices.

Hope that helps a bit.

NO PM's to me for further assistance !

whenever i dummy everything in sysdir it the iso doesnt work anymore. How should i change the sys_pc.text??? delete everything in it then add what you posted? Then i have to delete the sys.txt and the other 3 files you said correct?? Can you just be a little more detailed on how to get the holux working with it?
Thanks

Codaz

Go to the UMD properties tab of UMD GEN and then select the OPTIMIZE button in the left corner.

That will dummy the update.

An in the SYS file, just ADD those lines under [GPS] line, which is already present there.

Great Work.

If i obtain the .dem and .fbl files for australia, will that suffice??

July 3rd, 2008, 14:11
hi!

Nice post !

I was looking foward to see that kind of info.

I've been messing with the Go!Explore ISO from some time now... but I didn't get that much !

I'm still trying to add the Canada (or USA ?) map into it and I think the only possible solution is to "hack" the LIC file.

Have you any plan or some work going on this ?

Thanks !

dj_eddie
July 4th, 2008, 01:24
OK - So far heres what i have done:

placed australia.fbl and .dem to the appropriate folders.

Deleted the 4 files.

Dummied the update folder.

Ccreated the iso and dumped on the psp.

When i load the software, it loads up, then it goes back to XMB prior to the menue asking for the language.

So i readded the 4 deleted files and it loaded but i cuoldnt select the fbl and dem i added (as explained in the orignal post)

So my next test is to rename the australia files to something already existing like austria [looks similar i guess].

Ill repost later on tonight with my findings

Codaz
July 4th, 2008, 10:12
That won't work as the LAT / LON are different.

You deleted 4 files ?

Not good.

I said ONLY the Readhelper.idx and readhelper.dat

Then you must edit the SYS_PC for the Holux to work.

The maps can be replaced by deleting for example Belgium.FBL and inserting an other Belgium.FBL

Good luck.

dj_eddie
July 4th, 2008, 14:07
Ah Ok - 2 files not 4.

Thats better.

I deleted Austria.dem and Austria.fbl

I renamed my 'Australia' files to 'Austria' and copied them over.

My dem file = 129Mb
My fbl file = 70.7Mb

THe software now works, the GPS picks up satelliets and tells me my altitude, speed etc.

I go to Explore, then i press start button to show me where i am.

Everything looks black, so i zoom out.

hey presto, some things working, but not 100%.

Its definitely showing me where i am in australia but the entire county is black, no roads, no nothing, and i can only see the water.

Cheers

I got the same exact result some weeks ago.

As of now (correct me if im wrong) you can't "add" new country to this version of Go!Explore.

You can update the current countries map (Belgium for exemple) but you can't "add" a non present countries.

Some work need to be done on the .LIC file to enable other country and this is outside of my abilities.

The GPS part always worked fine for me, but as you said, it's a roadless/visualess representation of the country.

Here are some idea someone might want to try (I didn't... it's kinda out of my abalities) :

Get the header of the Belgium map (fbl) (or any map in the original ISO) and replace the one present in "your country" fbl.
Rename to Belgium.fbl replace the original...
Delete the chaching files (idx & ...)

If this doesn't work... it might be the filesize :
Find an fbl file bigger than your target fbl file.
Same as above...

Anyway, the only other solution I see would be to replace de LIC file from one of the worldwide IGO software... but I've tryed a fast "copy and replace" and it crash the game on startup...

Or... decrypt the LIC file ?

Thanks for the info anyway !

Anyone knows if there is a trick with the zip file format?

I'm trying to edit the lang files to a proper translation to my language.

I remember I saw in some post some months ago, to use a specific zip exe... but I don't seem remember it now.

Hey!
I try to get Go!Explore to work with my Holux reciever. The only thing I have done is to delete the readhelp files and add the "GPS lines" in the end of "SYS_PC.txt". But woulden't I also do something in "SYS.txt"? Have anyone get it up an running with a Holux receiver? Maybe you need some ini but the question is how everything is build up.

I've tried and can't get it to work. The map is blank with no roads. I can find where I am with the gps receiver (psp-290). This is what i did.

Open it up with UMDGEN
Deleted READHELPER.IDX & READHELPER.DAT
Deleted VATICAN.FBL
Renamed another map to VATICAN.FBL
Added new VATICAN.FBL (swapping new one)
Saved the CSO and copied to PSP

Don't know what to do with the dummy..

As of now, I don't think anyone is able to add worldwide map in Go!Explore.

The only thing he did was to "update" the currently embeded maps.

You can do the same thing... I can take de London map from my recent version of iGO 8 and swap it with the already embeded London map in Go!Explore.

But I can't add a USA or Canada (or any non currently embeded country) into it.

Someone need to "crack" the .LIC or find a way to use an internationnal liscence.

and I'm far from being able to do this!

Let's just wait and see :)

leras, read the thread, I know it consumes some time, but there you'll find information, on what's possible anf what to expect.

Look in: PSP_Game/USRDIR/CONTENT/MAP. Here you see the ctry's listed for which you are able to use the SW (=maps). The LIC supplied with your
Go!Explore does (as for the moment) not allow for adding other ctry's. You might be lucky with renaming a file for a non-listed ctry to that for a listed ctry (fx. If Norway is in your PSP_Game/USRDIR/CONTENT/MAP, try to rename your Greece file to Norway (the same with all other ctry specific files). Might work?

I've ordered the cable, and will try asap Codaz cookbook, allthough looking forward for more details from him and for;

"Codaz: Next week i will post some screenies from my modded Go!Explore."

Codaz

As i said, the whole renaming thing doesn't work.

The LIC file has the CRC checks in it, also with some filenames. So renaming is not an option.

-----------------

If you want to have a FULL worldwide experience you need a full basemap.

So the "britishisles.dem" isn't enough. You need a worldwide .DEM file

Seek for it.

----------

Wait just a little longer for my modified version !

So I've tried all the igo 8 worldwide lic's (3 versions) they won't work, program crashes, so we stick with the original go!explore lic.

So I've tried to change the DEM files to the ones from igo (canada, south america...), program works, but none of them are shown on the map. No good.

So I've tried to rename a any .FBL file to BASEMAP.FBL, no good, the program crashes.

I run out of options here.

Well, it didn't work for me.

- I have Holux GPSlim236 (working fine with mapthis)
- Edited/added SYS_PC.txt adding (after [gps]):

protocol = "NMEA"
port = 1
baud = 4800

- Deleted
READHELPER.IDX & READHELPER.DAT

Rebuild/save the iso but... Nothing happens: keeps asking for the GPS receiver.

Am I doing somethig wrong? Did anyone actually got holux working with go!explore?This topic is a bit confusing...

Shouldn't the baud rate be 38400?

Hi all.

I have tried this, but havent had any luck.

I have a PSPFat running on 3.90-3, plus a data cable and Holux 236.
These all work perfectly on Mapthis.

I have the following 2 UMD's, which I have copied to CSO files:

Go!Explore UCET00860
Version: 1.1
Disc Version: 0.08
Image Size: 289.28Mb

Go!Explore UCET00860
Version: 1.1
Disc Version: 0.09
Image Size: 1728.75Mb

What I describe below I have tried to both CSO's:

1st trial:
a) Extracted SYS_PC.TXT, and edited it using notepad, to become:

======================
Start Paste SYS_PC.TXT
======================

[device]
type="PSP"

[interface]
skin="ui_psp"
width=480
height=272
msgbox_max_width=40
vga=0

[rawdisplay]
class="wide"
highres=0

[map]
building_render_distance_near_front = 1.5
building_render_distance_medium_front = 2.5
building_render_distance_far_front = 4.0

building_render_distance_near_back = 1.5
building_render_distance_medium_back = 1.5
building_render_distance_far_back = 2.0

[screen]
focus_type="bmp"

[debug]
skip_eula=1
enable_roadsign=1
exclude_maps=""

[3d_config]
roadsign_lines_per_screen=20
top_transparent_border=25
bottom_transparent_border=25

[gps]
protocol = "NMEA"
port = 1
baud = 4800

====================
End Paste SYS_PC.TXT
====================

b) Substituted the SYS_PC.TXT inside the CSO with the edited one.

c) Saved (it recompresses to CSO)

d) Copied the file to /msroot/iso/

2nd Trial:
a) Extracted data.zip from GOEXP/PSP_GAME/USRDIR

b) added a file called holux.ini to data.zip, with the following contents:

=====================
Start Paste holux.ini
=====================

info_names="HOLUX,"

[gps]
port = 1
baud = 4800

[power]
backlight_min = 1
backlight_max = 9
backlight_reverse = 0
backlight_key_bright_BA1 ="BacklightLuminanceLevel"
backlight_key_bright_AC1 ="ACBacklightLuminanceLevel"
backlight_key_bright_BA2 ="Brightness"
backlight_key_bright_AC2 ="ACBrightness"
backlight_key_timeout_BA = "BatteryTimeout"
backlight_key_timeout_AC = "ACTimeout"
backlight_key_ontap_BA = "BacklightOnTap"
backlight_key_ontap_AC = "ACBacklightOnTap"
backlight_key_on_BA = "OnOff"
backlight_key_on_AC = "OnOff"
backlight_methods = 1
backlight_events = 1

===================
End Paste holux.ini
===================

c) Added holux.ini to data.zip, then substituted the data.zip file in the CSO

d) Saved (it recompresses to CSO)

e) Copied the file to /msroot/iso/

Before doing any of these steps, I used a fresh copy of the original CSO.

I then copied the CSO files to a freshly formatted MSDuo card (original Sony 4GB)

In both cases, Go!Explore starts up, and everything works, except for it detecting the GPS. Everythings blank in GPS info.

I have tried with the Sony gps, borrowed from a friend, and everything works.

Which brings me to my questions:
I) - Has anyone managed to get the holux to work with the serial cable and Go!Explore?

II) - Is the port speed correct?

I can start both CSO' and view the maps, but they all dont detect my Holux.

Is there something I'm doing wrong?

thanks guys!

In fact, one should patch the usbgps.prx so it could talk (NMEA parsing) to the GPS in the serial port...

I did not hack the LIC file.

Nieko and i spend a lot of hours searching in the leaked beta of Go!Explore.

It is a converted Igo2006 program.

In the final retail version (which is in stores now) much code cleanup has been done, and any PocketPC or other references are deleted (not all of them).

So get the beta (0.0.8) from one of the dark sides of the internet, and get going :)

I gave some options in this thread - UMDGen to extract the ISO, and then notepad to examine files.

I gave some options in this thread - UMDGen to extract the ISO, and then notepad to examine files.That's what I'm doing:I'm trying to make something out of the beta version.I actually have all the Go!Explore versions until now.It's just that the LIC file cannot be edited with the Notepad itself.I mean...it won't do.It is not clear what language is used.Someone said that it is MySQL,but it isn't.
There is one thing I don't understand.Go!Explore is iGO ported for the PSP.So what are Sony waiting for?They already have ALL the needed maps,they just have to place them inside!

Well,anyway,we'll keep trying,and someday,maybe,we will succeed.

PS:Wasn't it iGO8,not 2006?

So, any updates?

Has anyone tried to edit these files with NOTEPAD++ ? since it has a lot of programming languages, there might be one that works or that "shows" other things that can't be seen with other languages?

I also got a Holux M1000 but haven't gotten a Go!Explorer version yet, I need to clean my hdd... I'm going to wait a month or so and get the things I need to make my DYD holux cable...

First things first.

The long awaited Go!Explore is finally there.

I was very inquisitive when the first leak came out.

It's a bit a sloppy service from $ony, selling it for this much money.

Let's get to the facts:

-Go!Explore is just an edited IGO 2008 for PDA's
-It works with FBL maps
-Skins etc can be edited easily
-There are some protections build in
-Having your own voice in is possible
-Holux is possible, but not YET.

====================

================

* SYS.txt : nothing spectacular

======

======

=================

So now the burning question, how to make Holux work ?

From the experience that i have, make sure you have a mapthis working with holux at first.

Edit then the following files:

SYS_PC.txt

and make it:

[GPS]
protocol = "NMEA"
port = 1
baud = 4800

Or edit the DEVICE = Holux, and make the Holux.ini yourself in the DATA.ZIP > Config > Devices.

Hope that helps a bit.

NO PM's to me for further assistance !

Hello, i´m here from Germany. I´ve a Holux GR 231 and it works with MapThis but in Germany i´ve no geodat file, so it works not so i will (select streets and so one).
So i`ve now GOEXPLORE but it works not with my Holux GR 231.
You write about SYS_PC.txt i do not found it. Where it is? Can you give me more details step by step please.
thanks

After 2 days now i test all the specifications in this thread.
At this time i must say definitly Holux GR231 or GPSLim 236 doesn´t work with GO!EXPLORE. So I change with UMD Gen all the files last but not least the file doesn´t run. Now I have enough. I wait now of a better thread.

Is there any way I could use the iGo8 maps for the
Go Explore?
They look pretty similar to the Go explore maps to me.

There a thread talking about this some place under this one... we've been trying for some time now and I think there still no way to use igo8 map.

We can't even use the Maps from the Psp Store "as-is" ... I think it's a dead end

Hello!

I think PSP-290 gps recceiver is acts like an USB host, and the PSP is a slave, when i start go!explore.

Is it possible to write a driver on PC which emulates a PSP-290?

Why even bother with it? That receiver sucks so damn hard. Spend a little money to a nice receiver with sirf III chip.

I have a nice sirf III receiver. If there is an usb driver fo PC, which emulates a psp-290 than it is possible to connect my holux receiver to go!explore through the PC (or an usb host microcontroller maybe).

I think saying Holux is compatible is a bit too far out.

In the beta version 0.0.8 there are various calls found to the COM PORTS and baut rate which are normally used to communicate with an external GPS receiver.

I can't code, so someone has to modify The Go!Explore files to act with the Holux receivers.

It DOESN't work out of the box, it needs some extra coding.

Bad news is that almost ANY progress on Go!Explore is stopped.

No mapupdates, nothing after 8 months of release...

Hi all again.

I see some of you are still trying to get this work...

Last time I was here was about a year ago.

And I decided to come have a quick peek.

Then it hit me:

"The Beta is much more suitable for editing, but also less polished. So it's upto you.

The file structure.

1 BUY Go!Explore, they deserve the money.
2 Rip the iso to your pc with whatever program.
3 ...."

The guy who started this thread works for GO!

He just started this and put in the "Go buy {our} their game.... because {we} they deserve it!

Wonder how many people he got to go buy the UMD?:rofl:

Oh, and before any of you ask, I'll spell it out for you: The GO! Explore does not work with a serial cable. If you re not using the original psp GPS, this will not work. This was a HOAX!!!

A guy from Hungary found a map (Hungary) which works with go!explore. It is renamed to unitedkingdom7ppc.fbl. He told me it is a map from igo 2006 beta. I tried later maps but nothing worked. But there should be some maps which works (but old) for those who live in Eastern Europe.

I've tried deleting the helpers and tried change maps. Both doesn't worked. Now I'm looking at READHELPER.IDX. It seems to be something like a "map" to the position of the files on UMD/ISO. I'm thinking that this could be the reason to new maps works or not.

If someone could understand the file... I'm trying, but nothing until now...

=================================================

Edit: forget what I said above, if you delete the READHELPER.IDX and .DAT, on the first run of GO!Explore these files are created at root of MS. My last try of editing the ISO maked the GO!Explore identify the map size at configuration screen but no map show up (Brazil map renamed to UNITEDKINGDOM).

DennyPSP, your original GO!Explore came only with English and Russian languages?

DennyPSP
February 17th, 2010, 19:13
Yes its original Go!Explore with maps Russia from PSN Store, but i have make some changes for adding my russian language :)

You cant add any map from IGO, i try many times early. Maps from PSN Store have other modify format files *.fbl.edat but IGO maps have *.fbl

So i think this edat format was making in process downloading from PSN to my PSP.
I have PKG file with map too, but cant opent it..

it seems no one has hacked the go explore! to accept north america maps. whatever mentioned at the start of the thread do not work. Moreover, the beta version is not available anywhere too.. Its been such a wild goosechase..
