At today's Nintendo WiFi press conference, Hironobu Sakaguchi, founder of Mistwalker Studios formerly announced ASH. ASH, or Archaic Sealed Heat is a RPG title for the Nintendo DS being developed by former Square employee Hironobu Sakaguchi.

Sakaguchi is known for his work on such legendary games as Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Chrono Trigger. The founder of Mistwalker is known throughout the gaming world as the father of the Final Fantasy series. He has served in some form on almost every title in the game's history.

The story line of ASH centers around an ancient flame which had been sealed away for ages. The flame is known to anyone it touches into ash. However, their memories and heart remain, inside the ash. Mistwalker's DS RPG begins when the protagonist, Queen Aisha, discovers several people who were killed, and then resurrected by the flame.

Gameplay of the title is largely unknown, however, Sakaguchi and his staff give the game a genre of "Team Tactics". Although the game is said to resemble a simulation RPG. Regardless of its nature, ASH will truly push the DS to its graphical limits. Mistwalker hopes to give their RPG title, a realistic graphical style. The top screen of the system will portray an over-top view of the battlefield during engagements, while the second screen will follow the characters in a behind the back camera style.

In addition to himself, Sakaguchi has hired other legendary game developers such as Hitoshi Sakimoto (music), and Hideo Minaba (character design). Both Minaba and Sakimoto have worked on previous Final Fantasy titles, with Sakimoto even working on Final Fantasy 12. Ash has potential to be an impressive game given the level of talent Mistwalker has to offer. Be sure to stick with the Advanced Media Network as new details are expected to emerge shortly for this anticipated game.
