The official Japanese page (http://phantasystar.sega.jp/psp/) for SEGA's port of the popular MMO has been updated a bit earlier than expected. What did they add you might ask? Why nothing short of a huge demo that includes the entire first chapter from "Story Mode" and 5 missions from "Multiplayer Mode". RomTheStampede has mirrored the huge 297MB demo on SendSpace and you can grab it from the below link.

Just beat the demo in single player after 45 minutes or so of playing. Awesome game and quite easy to play. I can't wait for the English version!

Its fairly easy to figure out. Only thing I got stuck on was the part where you had to add party members to start the first mission.

Yeah, in regards to above posts, I had to upgrade to 4.01 M-33-2 to play (firmware requirment of 3.95). I imagine it'll be similar if not the same on final release.

In the meantime, here's something for you guys, the demo generates a save file. I'm guessing it's either nessesary for the game engine to run proprely for some reason, or it got left in from the main build. Another option is you can carry over data to the final product but...iuno.

Any suggestions/speculations?

edit: Forgot to put what I actually thought of the demo. It's actually well put-together. It's a faithfull transition from ps2/pc to the psp. Some things where dumbed down yes, but not nearly to the point where it diminishes gameplay. I think once us english-speaking audiences get a release, it shall be sweetness.

SEGA has stated that your save can be transferred from the demo version to the full version.

You can. you'll need pbp unpacker, after d/ling the demo open up the eboot.pbp and extract to any folder on your pc, then go to said folder and open param.sfo (with pbp unpacker) double click on the "3.95" box and another will pop up, simply delete 95 and replace with what ya want. Lastly use pbp unpacker again to recompile the eboot!!

I've recently finished this demo and im on 3.80 also. If anyone whats this badly i can always upload the 3.80 version :D

Let me know

Peace

This demo isn't going to be released in english, unfortunately. Hopefully the game is, though. It looks fantastic.

OK – so I have questions. :)

First, I have 4.01 m33-2 or whatever the newest CFW is. I found a torrent with the Japanese demo. If I DL that, it should work, correct?

Also – if I play this demo on the multi-mode and raise a character…And just keep raising him/her…It sounds like I’d be able to transfer this character to the full version when it’s released, right? Any thoughts as to if this character will be transferable to the US release?

I’m like, going seriously crazy about this release. I haven’t been this excited about a video game since the original Fable (I preordered it over a year in advance, and was let down hugely, but still loved the anticipation!) or PSU’s release (I wasn’t as happy with it as I was hoping, but since I had been playing PSO since DC v1, I was soiling myself with anticipation).
