When it comes to porting Final Fantasy XIII to Xbox 360, Square's of the opinion that it's not the size of the disc that matters; it's how you use it. FFXIII producer Yoshinori Kitase says that his team will "work on trying to find ways to compress the pre-rendered movies and voice that take up a lot of data in ways that don't affect the final product."

Kitase is also looking to the arcane arts of graphics programming "to ensure that the quality [of in-game visuals] remains the same between the two versions," as well. We suggest he trademark the name "Squeaze" for whatever method the team eventually settles on for cramming a Blu-ray based game onto (a number of) DVDs. Such a catchy name will certainly make the tech more marketable to other developers bringing their PS3 exclusives to 360.

Its going to be great lol, they will do it just fine and i am sure they will have some benefits working with the 360's hardware can't wait for it ;) i don't mind switching 2 times during the whole game FF7/FF9 anyone?

Yea it seems like Japanese devs are just lazy, western developers know of really good compression techniques to get 2-3 discs onto 1. Mass Effect is a prime example, sure it had its problems but that was mostly the engine, now with the HDD install coming it won't matter much.

this is what I was talking about... in order to not lose quality of the game, now they are finding new methods to "squeeze" all the files unto discs for the 360, not fun at all lol

This is Square, so i guess they'll find a way. Still, having up to 4 discs wouldn't be a problem, it would just remind me of the ol' Final Fantasy days where we had 3 to 4 discs.

It'd be like the PS1 days.
If they used 4 DL DVDs they get about 34GBs worth plus compression.

Still, I have a feeling that it'd lose content in some way.

not only did it not have any FF games on it, Square never even published a game on the original xbox! :D

Times change I guess, now it looks like Sqeenix loves the 360.
