okay, so I Have some experience in c/c++

I need to know how to...get started making ds homebrew.

PLEASE help!

I downloaded everything (in Devkit pro) except DevkitPSP and DevkitPPC

there are too many old tutorials and they are all confusing.

I would like some help in 2 things:

1) How to use it?
a) Do I put code in the programmer's notepad and hit ALT-1 (make)?
b) Where the heck does the .nds file go after (make)ing it?

2)
a) How do you program for the ds, like, what special things do I need before putting int main(void)
b) Is there a tutorial for special functions, input, touchscreen, ect.

I have 2 programs I consider porting to ds, but they don't have graphics, and are text based.
Would I need to make a touch-keyboard on bottom screen or something?

please help me get started so I can soon contribute to the nds homebrew coding scene :D

P.S. Although it's not a lot, I am willing to give the source code to my 2 programs to whoever helps me.

(C++ console rpg and C++ string AI robot)

I'm at exactly the same level. I'm new at DevKitPro as well. I don't have any clue about it ether. I hope we both get answers. Good luck. :)
