You can trick it to think it's 7.5?

You'd think Sony would've figured this out and have new games check for actual updated firmware structure.

Can this run on 2.0? I wouldn't mind tricking my 2.0 into thinking it's 2.5 :)

Stupid question: is there any way to watch UMD _movies_ that demand upgrading without actually having to upgrade?

should be in the same way i would of thought? Unless added files are needed in which case their is no current way.

I picked up Donnie Darko and it wanted me to upgrade to 1.52. I tried some version changers but although it didn't complain about upgrading anymore, it instead said "This disc cannot be played". Both disc and PSP is region 2, although the PSP is Japanese and disc is European. Any ideas?

Buy Donnie Darko on DVD and rip it to the PSP?
That's what I do anyway...that way I can watch it on TWO devices instead of just one. Also extends battery life by playing the movie off the memorystick.

Thanks for the advice, but I'm still interested in playing the UMD movies.
