PS3 firmware version 2.42 is now live

Xbox 360 owners can keep their biannual complete overhaul of the dashboard and all its features, PS3 owners are getting their consoles spruced up every couple of weeks it seems. Why just this morning there was a brand new version of the console's firmware that made its way online.

What new features can you expect? Well, according to Sony, 2.42 "improves the playback quality of some PlayStation 3 and PlayStation format software." ... Hey, we said the updates were frequent, we never said they weren't vague.

I don't care how vague the updates are sometimes, it's just nice to see they're constantly improving the PS3 and small and large scales.

To anyone still having trouble downloading the update from sony ... here's an alternative mirror

Extracting: have both files in the same directory or on your desktop. highlight both & right click & select "Extract here..."

Installing:
yourUSBdrive:/PS3/Update/[extracted update goes here]. now instead of "Update via Internet" just select "Update via Storage"
