Sony: 'PS2 will be ahead of Wii in 2011'

Sony boss Chris Deering has surprised many by predicting that the firm's PlayStation 2 console, which launched in the UK in the year 2000, will have more active users than Nintendo's Wii by 2011.

Speaking at the launch of Edinburgh's Interactive Festival, the games chief said all platforms will see major growth by 2011, predicting there will be 2.5 billion gamers worldwide.

Deering said the DS will have rocketed to 150m users, but top of the home console market will be the PS2 with 90m active users.

The Sony boss added the Wii will be second with 80m users, the PS3 and PSP will be at 70m and the Xbox 360 at 40m.

PS2? Why do they keep talking about PS2. For the final time, that was last gen. Also, how come Sony keeps grouping PSP+PS3? Why do they group PS3+PSP, but then leave the Wii and DS separate? PS3+PSP will be 70 million, so Wii+DS will be 200 million. See how that works.

I kinda dont believe that at 2011 there will be any new games for PS2, that just will not happens, at least i dont believe it. While Wii is different matter, as you as they add different hardware addons for it.

Anybody noticed how, ANALYSTS say the wii will do well, ANALYSTS say the xbox will do well, and its always SONY saying that the ps2/ps3 will "win or be on par".

Sony suck so much, as a company, as developers, as innovators.

Bla Bla Bla 2011 !!! i don't think so .....

Though it says nothing of new games but out of the Wii and ps2 more people will have a ps2 set up and using on a regular basis than the Wii , well thats what i make of it.
