Throughout the years, Yu Suzuki has been responsible for creating some of Sega's most popular franchises, including Virtua Fighter, Virtua Cop, and Out Run. Being tied so close to Sega throughout his professional career, it's surprising to hear that Suzuki is no longer with the company.

Simon Jeffery, CEO of Sega of America, notes the developer's departure in a an interview with Gamasutra (via Kotaku). "He's kind of his own man right now. Every now and again, he'll come up with an idea, and I don't think anything has come out of that yet, but we're still working with him."

Jeffery provides no details as to why the legendary developer is no longer with the company. Did he want more creative freedom? Was he not getting paid enough? Let the speculation begin.
