Decided to get this laptop...

After a lot of deliberation yesterday I decided to get this laptop :

The laptops use will be for the following :

Programming, Website Maintenance, Internet Browsing, Music, Movies, Emulation, Word & Image Processing.

Cost quite a bit, but it should be worth it hopefully :D

It was € 1,143.99 unfortunately.

I have 4 months to pay it off mind. Stuck it on the credit card (which has 4 months of interest free left :))

Yeah, the only thing I'm not a fan of is the Windows Vista part, but Vista should have no problem running on something like that! :D

Me too but I also agree with your point that it should run great on that laptop :)

Paid €300 of the thing today though (toward laptop) so that's a bit knocked off it I guess :)

Note :

To anyone thinking of getting a new Pc or laptop from dell I advise the following :

Always select the model just before the xps. In my case the inspiron 1720.

There are a few reasons why :

1) After googling I realized the xps was noisier than the Inspiration...
2) The same spec xps cost 100 + more than the same spec Inspiration...
3) You always get more customization options with any other dell bar the xps.

Just my 2 cents. Google the noise levels of the inspiron then the xps and you will see how huge the difference is.

There are more articles on the issue but this one covers most of the relevant info. Basically newer firmware and driver revisions have lowered clock speed/core volt and increased default fan speed in order to compensate for the design flaw in them, but they are basically crippled anyways.

Yeah I noticed that, a bit of a downer but hey, Dells support are usually great (in my experience) and have replaced graphics cards for me before.

Hopefully I will be one of the lucky ones who avoids trouble with it though :)

Could always upgrade it to the 9600m 512mb later on I guess.

I just bought a new macbook for 800$ (CAN) and im quite happy with it, the machine you have bought is a little to powerful for my tastes lol

Well dell messed me about (told me delivery wasn't going to be for another 2 weeks!) so i told them to keep there laptop

I got one from work instead. An Acer laptop

Here are the specs :

Intel Core 2 P7350 @ 2ghz.
3GB DDR2 Ram.
512mb Nvidia GeForce 9600m GT GDDR3 Card.
250gb Harddrive @ 7200 rpm.
15.4" Screen.

Probably more powerfull than the dell anyway. I am pretty sure the far better gfx card in this acer is more beneficial than a smaller gfx card and 1gb more ram.

Cost me €899, so I saved like €250 not getting the dell

Best thing is I am really happy with it. My compile times for the psp have gone down 70>80%, I can play dolphin at great fps, and I can install programs and use them at lightning speeds. So overall a very happy customer

Laptop model is Acer Aspire 5930G, I would highly reccomend it
