Macross Ace Frontier is gearing up for an October 9 PSP release over in Japan. Bandai Namco has turned the marketing machine into overdrive, and today shared a bunch of new screens and art, along with a list of songs that will feature in the game.

As anyone who's seen the anime will tell you, Macross has somewhat of a strong bond with music. The game will reflect that with a mix of vocal and instrumental tracks.

Fans should see if they remember any of these:

Ai: Oboeteimasuka (Mari Ijima)

Shao Pai Long (BGM only)

Unmei no Ya (BGM only)

As indicated by the source list for the songs, Ace Frontier pulls its content from the entire Macross universe. The same seems to hold true for its gameplay systems, as the game includes a unique battle system that's based around Macross 7.

Players make use of this system exclusively when piloting as Macross 7's Basara Nekki. Rater than pummelling his opponents with missile barrages, Basara Nekki fights with music. To defeat your enemies, you sing, making their "will to fight" guage deplete. Once this guage has reached zero, the enemy will flee.

The new media Namco Bandai handed out today show a variety of mecha and characters along with the Ace Frontier official illustration. For importers, this will hopefully be enough to hold you over until the October 9 release.

What? no "Hush of 200 million years"? or even "Banana Moon Love" :p

I guess they're writing off Macross II as a mistake after all
