Every month, various retailers send their total console sales figures back to publishers to be collated for regular internal report action. That's *every* major retailer. Why is that important? Well apparently, Chart Track doesn't count Toys R Us and other such stores, meaning its sales figures aren't entirely holistic. Plus, Chart Track doesn't publicly air their explicit figures. Thankfully, publishers sometimes do. On the sly.
Here are last week's platform sales figures for the UK:

DS - 40,000
GBA (SP & Micro) - 32,000
PSP - 12,000
PS2 - 35,000
Xbox - 5,000
GameCube - 1,500

These figures were shared with us from a reliable internal source at a major format holder who wishes to remain anonymous.
To make sure these figures weren't politically skewed toward that format holder, we contacted a multiplatform publishing source to verify the numbers - again, who wishes to remain anonymous (yeah, I know) as the leaking of sales figures is often deemed punishable by death - and he gave us:

DS - 32,000
PS2 - 29,000
GBA SP - 16,500
PSP - 11,000
GBA Micro - 5,000
XBOX - 4,000
GC - 1,000

So they're pretty close and definitely the same in terms of chart position so to speak. We'd say any differences are merely attributed to which stores participate in the sending back of sales figures to respective publishers, as many often choose just to collate their own numbers direct with retailers, rather than rely on a single body.

So anyway. What a great week for DS! You'd think with GTA:LCS on PSP those figures would be the other way around, but it seems the powers of some digital puppies can quash any Hip-Hopping gang-banger. Looks like there truly are blue skies in gaming.

Meanwhile, the Xbox and Gamecube look longingly from the pit of dead sales figures. Micro doesn't appear to have taken off especially well, but then it is just a tiny version of the sexy SP.

Shame, i love the game cube and i dunno why its dying so much, it doesnt help with retailers like game taking them off the walls so they can stick in 50 rows of bloody PS2 games and when there all the same on each damn wall, and taking up so much room with empty box;s to sell off all the hundreds of second hand PS2's theve been dumped with. if they simply gave it more space and advertised it more then it would be stronger than a ***** on viagra!

But still, now all the game shops who tryed to go LOOK AT ME I HAVE PSP's instead of LOOK AT ME I GOT DS's must be kicking them selfs for doing so. and alos... carphone werehouse... they sell psp's... WHY!!! ITS A FECKING PHONE SHOP!!!!
