Though several European gamers trying to get an Xbox 360 when the console launches in the region think they have a better chance of getting struck by lightning, they're quite wrong. In fact, they have twice as good a chance of getting their hands on the next-generation console when it launches December 2 as they do getting struck by the hand of Zeus (1 in approximately 600,000).

Talking to a German newspaper reporter, vice president of Microsoft Europe's Home and Entertainment Division Chris Lewis gave some hope to gamers in the region. Lewis said that analysts' predictions of 300,000 Xbox 360s available for the European launch "were not far removed from reality," according to Reuters. Lewis also thinks that the console has a strong possibility of selling out in Europe.

Microsoft has a heady chore ahead of them. The first-ever "simultaneous" global launch will mean that the company must replenish depleted stocks in North America, and prepare a regional launch in Europe on December 2 and Japan on December 10.

The company expects to have a steady flow of systems into market on a weekly basis to match the company's lofty projections.

Peter Moore, Microsoft corporate vice president of worldwide marketing and publishing, recently told GameSpot that the company expects to ship 2.5 to 3 million units worldwide in the console's first 90 days, and 10 million by the end of 2006.
