Gamespot report in an interview with Famitsu, Yoshihiro Maruyama, executive officer and general manager of Microsoft Japan's xbox division, revealed that he expects more than 100 games to be released for the Xbox 360 in Japan by the end of 2006. While the figure includes American games, it's nearly double the lineup of titles that were available in Japan a year after the original Xbox's launch.

Maruyama commented that the release of first-party games from Microsoft will be slow during the first half of 2006, but consumers should expect a new game every month during the second half of the year. He expects at least 10 first-party titles to be released in Japan during 2006, half of which will be overseas games.

The Microsoft executive also said that the fight against the PlayStation 3 hinges on releasing as many high-quality titles as possible before Sony's console is launched. According to Maruyama, Microsoft still has many cards up its sleeve, hinting that there are still a number of games that haven't yet been announced.

When asked about a sales goal for the Xbox 360, Maruyama didn't provide a figure specifically for Japan, but instead went global. He says that Microsoft plans to ship 3 million units worldwide in the first three months, and 4.5 million units by the end of June.
