This is easily one of the more unorthodox hacks we've come across, and while we have all ideas only a few will even bother to give it a go, we couldn't help but share. Steve from PanoCamera decided that lugging around a laptop for precisely controlled shooting was just too much effort, so rather than throwing in the proverbial towel, he simply figured out a better way. By hacking the DS to play nice with his monstrous Canon, he was able to use the handheld to begin / stop shooting and tweak all manners of settings. For those interested in having one of their own, but completely uninterested in using their innate DIY skills to make it happen, drop ole Steve an e-mail.

cool, but I don't think I would ever use it. And how many photographers have nintendo ds systems anyway?

cool, but I don't think I would ever use it. And how many photographers have nintendo ds systems anyway?

It's quite expensive to get an accurate time lapse movie without using a top of the range video/still camera and/or laptop and be prepared to use them in all weathers.

Using a DS with a cheaper camera could be a safer solution.

For an expensive camera the advantage is the DS's size when linked to the camera and it easily fits inside a "gadget bag".

If used in place of a laptop you would lose the ability to view/edit your pictures on location.

When I last looked, I think a good remote shutter timer was about £120.

So if the interface is cheap and cheerful I think the real problem would be finding photographers with the skill/desire to make the bespoke software for the different makes/models that are out there.

Full marks to Steve to being one of the few
