As the world patiently waits for any news on Crystal Bearers, Square Enix has gone about announcing yet another game in the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles series. The latest issue of Jump Magazine is home to first details on Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Echoes of Time.

Described as a sequel to DS's Rings of Fate, Echoes of Time promises multi-player play with up to four players selecting from four different character classes.

Here's the big catch though. Echoes of Time is coming out on simultaneously on both the Wii and DS, and the game will be cross-platform playable. DS players use the stylus for control, with Wii players using the Wiimote.

Jump reports that Echoes of Time makes use of a new cross platform system called the "Pollux Engine." Wii and DS players connect to one-another via Wi-Fi. In addition to chat features, the cross-platform play allows DS players to import their Miis over from the Wii.

The Jump article also mentions that the game can be played with friends throughout the world over Wi-Fi.

Outside of this, specifics are a bit scarce. The game's storyline centers on a main character who's approaching her 16th birthday. At the outset of the game, she ventures out of the village for the first time and encounters a massive tower.

This unexpected entry in the Crystal Chronicles franchise will hit the Wii and DS in Japan on January 29. Both versions will be priced at 4,800 yen, which is normal pricing for a DS title but about 1,000 yen less than most Wii games.
